BACKGROUND
Welcome
to the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Practitioners
Training Program!
This program is designed for crime
prevention volunteers and professionals who want practical
information on what they can do to enhance safety and security
for people, places, and property. It was developed by the
Justice Institute of B.C., with funding from the Vancouver
Foundation, to meet the need for practical,
skill-based crime prevention training. Justice Institute
staff worked with an
advisory group of crime prevention practitioners to develop
the program, which first appeared in print format in 1998.
In 1999, the Justice Institute
received a Crime Prevention Partnership Program grant from
the National Crime Prevention Centre (NCPC) of Canada to adapt
the course materials for Web-based learning. The NCPC recognized
the contribution that this project would make to the objectives
of the National Strategy on Community Safety and Crime Prevention.
The grant announcement was made jointly by A. Anne McLellan,
Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, and Lawrence
MacAulay, Solicitor General of Canada. A second
advisory committee and a site
implementation group were formed to oversee this project.
